Understanding U.S. election results
Distinguish media projections from official counts and certified results.
State and local officials administer U.S. elections. Registration, voting, ballot processing, canvassing and certification follow the rules of the responsible jurisdiction.
A media projection is not a certified result. Early returns can change while ballots are counted. Before sharing a claim, check the election, publication date and responsible election office.
