For president, 1,976, when it backed Jimmy Carter. Before 2026, its last Democratic senator was elected in 1,988 and its last Democratic governor in 1,990.

In 2026 Democrats James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa won the Senate and governor races, according to race calls. Texas still voted for Trump by 13.7 points in 2024, so one election does not make it a blue state.
